How do you choose which community activities to volunteer for?

Finding the right community activities to volunteer for can be quite challenging, especially now that we’re retired and looking to stay engaged. There’s a wide array of options available, from environmental cleanup projects to assisting at local schools, making it tough to choose what truly resonates with our interests and fits into our schedules.

For instance, I recently discovered a local animal shelter in need of volunteers, but I also have a passion for working with senior citizens. Should I stick with what I love or challenge myself with something completely different? How do you go about deciding which community activities to get involved in? What factors do you consider when selecting where to offer your time and support?

It can be a tough call! I usually think about what I’m most passionate about, but trying something new can be super rewarding too. Maybe try a few different activities to see what you enjoy most? That way, you won’t feel locked into just one thing.

It can be tough to decide, right? I ended up picking a mix of things—like helping out at the library and volunteering at the community garden. You might find that doing different activities keeps it fresh and exciting, plus you meet all kinds of people. Just do what feels right in the moment!
