How to Choose the Best Hobbies for Retirement?

Choosing new hobbies during retirement can be a bit daunting with so many possibilities out there. I’m particularly torn between painting and cooking, and I’m not sure which would fit better into my daily life. I’m looking for something that really brings me joy and keeps my days interesting.

On one hand, painting seems like a fantastic way to express myself and enjoy some peaceful moments. However, I’m concerned about how steep the learning curve might be. On the other hand, cooking feels practical and satisfying, especially since I could share what I make with my family. But I’m worried it might turn into more of a chore.

What hobbies have you embraced in your retirement? How did you figure out which ones were the right fit for you?

I totally get the struggle! I picked up gardening in retirement because it’s relaxing and gives me fresh veggies to share. I found it helps to start with what you enjoy most—maybe try a few classes or online tutorials for painting to see if you vibe with it before diving in. Cooking can definitely feel like a chore sometimes, but it’s also super rewarding!
