Is a light fitness routine enough for staying active in retirement?

As we adjust to retirement, staying active can sometimes feel confusing. A friend of mine has been enjoying a combination of walking and yoga a few times each week, but they’re unsure if that’s enough to maintain their overall health. With so many fitness options available, it’s tough to determine what really works well for us at this stage in life.

While many of us prefer lighter fitness routines that fit our lifestyle and bring joy, some are questioning whether that’s truly sufficient for cardiovascular health or strength. Do you have any light exercises that you find effective without overexerting yourself?

I’d love to hear how others are incorporating fitness into their retirement. What strategies do you use, and how do you gauge your progress?

A friend of mine does simple dance classes a couple of times a week and says it’s fun without feeling like a workout. I think it’s all about finding what you enjoy, but mixing in some strength stuff can really help too. Just keep it light and fun, right?

Honestly, I’ve found that just mixing in some light strength training with my walks and yoga has really helped. I do a bit of resistance band work at home a few times a week, and it makes a difference in how I feel overall. Plus, tracking my steps and progress keeps me motivated.
