Is Investing in a Small Garden Space Worth It in Retirement?

As gardening becomes more popular, I’ve been thinking about whether it’s a good idea for those of us in retirement. The idea of creating a small garden in my San Diego backyard sounds inviting, but I’m also wary of the time and effort it might require. I’ve heard it can be therapeutic and a source of fresh produce—does that hold true?

Given the lovely climate here, I’m curious about the upkeep involved. Are there specific plants or garden setups that are easier for someone with a laid-back schedule? If you’ve started a garden, how rewarding has your experience been?

What advice do you have for a gardening newbie? Do you think a small garden could truly enhance my retirement experience?

Plus, having fresh herbs for cooking has been great! Definitely think it could add some fun to your retirement. Just start small and see how it goes!
